Department of Education Vacating Headquarters Building in the District of Columbia

On March 26, 2026, the Department of Education announced that it would vacate its headquarters office in the District of Columbia and move its remaining staff to 500 D Street SW in Washington, D.C. According to a Department of Education fact sheet on the move, the Department decided to relocate after a reduction in force impacting nearly 50 percent of its workforce, which left the headquarters "chronically underutilized."
