Transportation Relocates FAA Employees in Office Consolidation

On August 26, 2025, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy informed employees by memo that Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) headquarters staff — spread across six locations in the Washington, D.C. area — would be consolidated into the Department of Transportation's headquarters building, which was also in D.C. Government Executive reported that the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 1653, which represents FAA headquarters employees, said it received no advance notice of the plan; the union subsequently filed complaints with the Federal Labor Relations Authority and estimated that roughly 5,000 employees would be affected by the relocations. According to a July 2026 GAO report, the relocations had begun but were not complete at that time.
