VA Launches Veterans Health Administration Reorganization
Press Release or Fact Sheet | December 15, 2025
The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) announced its intent to roll out a major restructuring of the VHA, starting in 2026. Key components of the proposed restructuring include increasing the policy and financial oversight responsibilities of the VHA Central Office and significantly reducing the number of Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs), which are regional administrative bodies that support VA medical centers in their region. According to reporting, in a congressional subcommittee meeting, Secretary Doug Collins indicated the up-front cost of the restructuring would be over half a billion dollars, but is expected to be reduced to over $300 million over time as the agency realizes cost savings.
