Data Shows Federal Law Enforcement Personnel Reassigned to Assist ICE
According to an online CATO Institute report, Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) records show that ICE is receiving assistance from nearly 17,000 non-ERO agents, including 14,500 federal criminal law enforcement officers. The report states that the data was shared with CATO by a third party. These reassignments constitute a significant portion for each agency: One in five US Marshals, one in five FBI agents, half of DEA agents, over two-thirds of ATF, and nearly 90 percent of Homeland Security Investigations personnel. It is unclear from the report whether personnel were formally reassigned, or whether law enforcement officers remained with their agency but were assigned a different type of work.
