2026 Special Rates for Certain Law Enforcement Personnel

President Trump had announced an Alternative Pay Plan that provided for a 1% base pay increase for most civil servants but directed the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to use other special pay authorities to provide an additional approximately 2.8 percent pay increase for certain law enforcement officials. This OPM announcement explains the authority and mechanisms for that special pay increase. Specifically, OPM's press release states that these special pay rates are designed to bolster recruitment and retention for front-line law enforcement officers. OPM plans to consult multiple law enforcement agencies to identify categories of law enforcement eligible for these pay increases, including: Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officers, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel, Secret Service personnel, Federal Protective Service (FPS) Officers, Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) correctional officers, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agents, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Agents, U.S. Marshals Service Officers, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Special Agents, and National Park Service (NPS) Police Officers.
