U.S. Department of Education Announces Multiple New Interagency Partnerships
On November 18, 2025, the Department of Education announced six new interagency agreements with the Departments of Labor, Interior, Health and Human Services, and State in an effort to “break up the federal education bureaucracy, ensure efficient delivery of funded programs [and] activities, and move closer to fulfilling the President’s promise to return education to the states.” Pursuant to these agreements, Education Secretary Linda McMahon informed Department of Education employees that Education would transfer employees to these other agencies on a temporary basis. On February 23, 2026, the Department announced two additional interagency agreements with the Departments of Health and Human Services and State. And on March 19, 2026, the Department announced it would shift its student loan portfolio to the Treasury Department.
