This Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) sought to implement EO 14,171 (Restoring Accountability to Policy-Influencing Positions Within the Federal Workforce) which created Schedule Policy/Career for what the government determines are "confidential, policy-determining, policy-making, or policy-advocating" positions. The Office of Personnel Management extended the deadline to comment on the rule to June 7, 2025 (90 FR 22028). Like all NPRMs, this rule is not yet final. Protect Democracy filed an extensive comment challenging the proposed rule.
