FBI Director Plans Employee Relocations to Field Offices

In his May 8, 2025 opening statement to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel stated on the congressional record that the FBI was "moving more than 1,000 positions out of Washington, D.C., and into cities across America" and was "realigning our organizational structure to streamline operations." Earlier reporting by the New York Times described the same plan, including the relocation of approximately 500 additional support staff to the FBI's Huntsville, Alabama campus.
