Soliciting Feedback For Agency Reorganization Plan & RIF
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche issued an internal memorandum to Department of Justice (DOJ) component heads, titled "Soliciting Feedback For Agency Reorganization Plan and RIF," summarizing the DOJ's March 13, 2025 report to the Office of Personnel Management and Office of Management and Budget and outlining a sweeping proposed reorganization of the Department. The memo proposed eliminating the Community Relations Service; closing the Consumer Protection Branch; reassigning the bulk of Tax Division and Public Integrity Section attorneys to U.S. Attorneys' offices while retaining only a "core team of supervisory attorneys"; merging the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with the Drug Enforcement Administration; consolidating grantmaking offices that handle domestic violence, state and local policing, and tribal public safety; and restructuring the Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) by transferring its Law and Policy Section to the Office of Legal Policy and closing ENRD field offices in Denver, Sacramento, Seattle, and San Francisco. Components were given until April 2, 2025 to respond. House Judiciary Committee Democrats publicly released the memo on March 30, 2025.
