Changes to DOJ's Criminal Division Fraud Section

The Department of Justice Criminal Division's Fraud Section 2025 Year in Review, published January 22, 2026, documented that the Section's Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) Unit had decreased from 32 prosecutors at the start of 2025 to 22 prosecutors by year-end, a roughly 30 percent reduction. FCPA's unit investigates, among other things, allegations of foreign bribery by Americans and publicly traded companies in the United States. The publication also recorded staffing increases in the Section's Health Care Fraud Unit (70 to 75 prosecutors) and Market, Government, and Consumer Fraud Unit (35 to 55), and described the absorption of the former Consumer Protection Branch into a new Health and Safety Unit in November 2025.
