Competency-Based Qualification Standards for the Information Technology Management Series

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued new standards for competency to qualify for a category of Information Technology (IT) positions across government. The new standards eliminated education as a minimum qualification requirement and replaced traditional experience requirements with demonstrated competency proficiency levels that can be established through means other than a college degree or conventional work history, including certifications, training, and skills assessments.
