Staffing Cuts to DHS Office of Intelligence & Analysis
According to reporting, in late June 2025, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem signed off on plans to reduce the Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) by about 75%, from roughly 1,000 full-time employees to 275. I&A is one of 18 U.S. intelligence community agencies and the primary federal conduit for disseminating threat information to state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement. Following public reporting and concerns, the cuts were briefly paused. Going forward, instead of a single large cut, DHS issued multiple rounds of deferred resignation program offers. By October 2025, the office had been reduced to approximately 700 staff members. DHS said the reductions were aimed at eliminating "redundant positions and non-critical programs."
