Community Relations Service Shuttered

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche's March 25, 2025 internal "Soliciting Feedback For Agency Reorganization Plan and RIF" memorandum identified the Community Relations Service (CRS) for elimination as part of the Department of Justice's (DOJ) broader reorganization. The CRS — established under Title X of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to assist communities in "preventing and resolving racial and ethnic tensions, conflicts, and civil disorders, and . . . restoring racial stability and harmony" — was shut down on September 30, 2025. Outside groups have sued the administration over its decision to shut down the office.
