Staffing Cuts at the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality Rendered Agency Virtually Dormant by April 2026

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, which researches issues related to the delivery of care to patients was reduced from approximately 300 employees to 90 employees by April 2026 as a result of staffing cuts at the Department for Health and Human Services (HHS). As part of the cuts, the Agency lost all employees responsible for processing grant applications and had not funded any research projects in over a year, nor spent any of the money appropriated to it for fiscal year 2026.
