Letter Raising Concerns with ICE Recruitment Strategies

This letter from Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Richard Durbin to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem raised concerns about Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) ongoing campaign to hire approximately 10,000 additional personnel. According to the letter, there have been several significant changes to ICE's recruitment, hiring, and training practices, including: the minimum hiring age was lowered from 21 to 18, the upper age cap was eliminated entirely, a Spanish-language proficiency requirement was removed, and the training program was shortened by five weeks. ICE also launched a high-cost advertising campaign.
