Hiring Freeze
Presidential Memorandum | January 20, 2025
This Presidential Memorandum imposed a hiring freeze on most federal career positions. It exempted certain agencies and political appointees. The memorandum instructed that the Office of Management and Budget, the Office of Personnel Management, and the Department of Government Efficiency submit a "plan to reduce the size of the Federal Government’s workforce through efficiency improvements and attrition," upon which time the hiring freeze would expire.
