U.S. Department of Education Initiates Reduction in Force

On March 11, 2025, the Department of Education announced in a press release that it would be initiating a reduction in force (RIF) impacting nearly 50 percent of the Department’s workforce, from 4,133 employees to roughly 2,183. Impacted employees were placed on administrative leave beginning March 21, 2025, with the Department indicating that it would provide full pay and benefits until June 9, 2025.
