The Department of Commerce’s efforts to reduce staff have led to the departures of key cybersecurity staff at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Among the departures are the chief of the Computer Security Division (CSD), the head of CSD’s Security Testing, Validation and Measurements Group, and the head of CSD’s Secure Systems and Applications Group. According to industry publication Cybersecurity Dive, the staffing losses “are causing alarm within the tech industry” and “raising concerns over NIST’s work on emerging technology issues in quantum computing and artificial intelligence.”
