Elimination of Federal Advisory Committees Within the Department of Agriculture

Secretary Brooke Rollins issued Secretary's Memorandum 1078-002, finding sixteen of the Department of Agriculture's federal advisory committees "unnecessary" and terminating them to the maximum extent consistent with law, one day after the President's executive order directing agencies to reduce the federal bureaucracy and identify advisory committees for elimination. The terminated bodies include all six Agricultural Technical Advisory Committees for Trade, the National Advisory Committees on Meat and Poultry Inspection and on Microbiological Criteria for Foods, the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, the Advisory Committee on Agriculture Statistics, and regional bodies including the Black Hills National Forest Advisory Board and the Northwest Forest Plan Area Advisory Committee. The memorandum revokes Departmental Regulation 1043-027 (February 7, 2011) in its entirety, and authorizes transfers of funds, personnel, and records to implement the terminations.
