DOE Removed References to DEIA & Gender from Several Employee Policies
The Department of Energy (DOE) removed references to gender, to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA), or to both, from several employee policies through administrative changes issued on January 30, 2025. The changes implemented Executive Order 14,168, which directed agencies to rescind guidance inconsistent with its policy recognizing only two sexes, and Executive Order 14,151, which mandated the elimination of DEIA programs and policies; OPM's January 29, 2025 implementation memorandum had directed agencies to withdraw directives promoting "gender ideology" and to report compliance by February 7, and DOE's administrative changes issued the following day. The affected directives include DOE's policies on preventing and responding to workplace violence (DOE P 444.1 and DOE G 444.1-1), limited personal use of government office equipment (DOE O 203.1A), administering workforce discipline and adverse and performance-based actions (DOE O 333.1), telework and remote work (DOE O 314.1A), program management (DOE P 410.3), and Federal Employee Occupational Medical Programs (DOE G 341.1-1A). Following DOE's 2026 migration of its public directives library, only the current versions of these directives remain publicly posted; the superseded versions documenting the removed language are preserved in the Archive's source files.
